Job Title: Climate Change Community Outreach Worker
Contract: Fixed term for 9 months (with possible extension dependent on funding). This role is being offered as either self-employed or employed.
Two posts available, one based in and around Bridgwater and one based in and around Taunton. For the right candidate, these posts may be combined.
Salary:
- Self-employed £12 – £15 per hour (depending on experience/qualifications)
- Employed £21,100 - £23,600 pro-rata (depending on experience). Annual leave 28 days, including Bank Holidays (pro-rata)
Hours: Part time. Up to 40 hours per month (to be agreed). Hours are flexible to meet the needs of the role, and will include some evening and weekend work.
Location: Home based, with regular and frequent travel in and around either Bridgwater or Taunton, but may extend to other areas in Somerset. Having your own car is essential.

About the role
The postholder will Work with a range of communities to take action on climate change, the project reaches out to, and supports individuals and communities to write their own Climate Action Plans (CAPs) – enabling everyday carbon savings from individual households and larger scale community-wide schemes.
The role involves engaging people in delivering sustainability projects within the local community, as well as working with groups and volunteers to support people with behaviour change projects to reduce domestic energy use, and other carbon and waste reduction measures. Some household visits will be required. All within the context of the cost-of-living crisis.
A key element of the role will be to develop a good working relationship with, and support for, local groups and volunteers to assist in the delivery of the project, and help sustain the benefits over the long-term.
As a new initiative the postholder will play a major role in helping to shape the programme and how it is delivered, as it progresses.
This role requires a passion for practical community action on climate change, the environment and poverty.
Ideally, we are looking for some with demonstrable skills, experience and enthusiasm, but we would consider applicants without relevant workplace experience, but with the requisite skills and enthusiasm and other personal attributes. This may be people starting out in this type of work, or returning to working for example.
Access to a vehicle for this work is essential. Some out of hours working (evenings and weekends) is required.
The postholder will be based from home, but there is a shared office facility at our registered address in central Taunton that the outreach worker may be required to attend on occasions, or they may find it beneficial to make use of.
We are looking for an organised and motivated, self-starter who can enthuse, enable and empower.
This is a time limited post so ideally, we are looking for someone who can start soon after appointment.
We will be applying for more funding to continue and extend the project – but a possible extension of work is not guaranteed.
