The Bird in Hand is a busy, welcoming country pub near Taunton, known for great food, quality drinks and excellent customer service. We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Duty Manager who can lead from the front, support the team, and ensure every guest enjoys a memorable visit.
We're seeking someone who enjoys being on the floor, working alongside the team, engaging with customers, and maintaining high standards throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities

Leading shifts and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations

Delivering exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere

Supporting and motivating the front-of-house team

Managing staff rotas and shift organisation when required

Assisting with recruitment, training and development of team members

Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and compliance

Handling customer enquiries and resolving issues professionally

Supporting stock control, ordering and wastage management

Ensuring all licensing, health & safety and food hygiene standards are met

Working closely with senior management to drive sales and profitability
What We're Looking For

Previous experience in a pub, restaurant or hospitality management role

Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach

Excellent communication and people-management abilities

Passion for hospitality and customer service

Ability to remain calm and organised during busy service periods

Good understanding of food safety, licensing and health & safety requirements

Flexible and reliable, with availability to work evenings and weekends

Personal licence holder desirable, but not essential
