Location: The Bird in Hand, North Curry, Taunton, TA3
Position: Duty Manager (Full-Time)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Hours: Flexible, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays

The Bird in Hand is a busy, welcoming country pub near Taunton, known for great food, quality drinks and excellent customer service. We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Duty Manager who can lead from the front, support the team, and ensure every guest enjoys a memorable visit.

We're seeking someone who enjoys being on the floor, working alongside the team, engaging with customers, and maintaining high standards throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading shifts and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations

  • Delivering exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere

  • Supporting and motivating the front-of-house team

  • Managing staff rotas and shift organisation when required

  • Assisting with recruitment, training and development of team members

  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and compliance

  • Handling customer enquiries and resolving issues professionally

  • Supporting stock control, ordering and wastage management

  • Ensuring all licensing, health & safety and food hygiene standards are met

  • Working closely with senior management to drive sales and profitability

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in a pub, restaurant or hospitality management role

  • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach

  • Excellent communication and people-management abilities

  • Passion for hospitality and customer service

  • Ability to remain calm and organised during busy service periods

  • Good understanding of food safety, licensing and health & safety requirements

  • Flexible and reliable, with availability to work evenings and weekends

  • Personal licence holder desirable, but not essential
