We have an exciting opportunity for experienced
Firearms Instructors to deliver comprehensive firearms and specialist training to Firearms Officers across three police forces (Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire). You will be passionate about delivering effective training and assessment to enable our officers to gain the knowledge and skills required to become qualified firearms officers.
In this role, you will research, design and deliver training and courses in accordance with the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum (NPFTC). You will be responsible for the daily maintenance of all ranges, operational and training equipment including responsibility of reporting any faults with the vehicles and associated equipment.
This role is based at Blackrock Specialist Training Centre which is a state of the art firearms training facility located in the commuter town of Portishead which offers great road links to the South West and Wales and the vibrant city of Bristol with many famous attractions and activities.
Qualifications required:
- National Police Firearms Training Certificate (within the last 3 years) or be trained to Module F1 of the NPFTC
- Teaching or training qualification to NVQ Level 3 in Training and Development or equivalent (AEAT – Award in education & Training)
- Hold or be willing to achieve IOSH (Managing safely) within 12 months of appointment
- Enhanced First Aid qualification and be prepared to undergo annual re-qualification.
Skills and experience required:
- Excellent communication skills including written and presentation skills.
- Experience of delivering training on a one to one and group basis.
- Excellent IT skills with experience of maintaining training records.
- Experience of carrying out risk assessments.
- Maintain firearms and training equipment.
- Experience of research and designing training courses is desirable.
Additional information:
- You will be based at Blackrock in Portishead, Bristol but you will be required to deliver training courses across the Tri-force area (Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Police).
- You must hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the Tri force area using alternative transport.
- You will need to maintain a Continuous Personal Development record and accreditations in line with the role.
- You will be required to attend annual hearing and eyesight tests in line with national standards and meet the required fitness level for the role
- You will need to maintain ARV qualification standard and the national instructor qualification standard set by the College of Policing.
