South West Forensics has an exciting opportunity become available for a Forensic Submissions Support Officer. 

There are 2 roles available one part time (0.5) permanent position and one full time temporary 6 month contract. 

As a member of Forensic Submissions you will join a close knit team that works well together, is supportive and dedicated to supporting the forensic investigation of crime and bringing offenders to justice.

Reporting to the Regional Forensic Submissions Manager; you will support the Forensic Submissions team in this multi-functioning and physical role.  As a team, alongside our external forensic service providers we ensure that the region receives the best forensic result and intelligence at the best cost in accordance with the National framework and Next Generation Procurement contract (NGP).

The specialist advice and support we provide is key in assisting decision making by Police investigators of crime; ultimately, helping to provide the evidence required to bring cases to the Criminal Justice System, which help provide positive outcomes for victims of crime.

In this role, your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Managing the receipt and dispatch of exhibits from internal and external couriers, South West Forensics departments and hand deliveries from officers. 
  • Managing logistics of exhibit transfer to and from external laboratories, and regional Force sites including exhibit property stores. 
  • Checking the integrity and quality of exhibit deliveries to ensure evidence preservation and chain of continuity and making enquiries to resolve and correct any discrepancies.
  • Use Force systems including the forensic case management system to update exhibit continuity, check and amend data for quality, and to maintain records for transparency and disclosure as part of the Criminal Justice System. 
  • Manage exhibit data archive, weeding and destruction in line with MOPI guidance and legislation.  
  • Provide administrative support to the wider Forensic Submissions team. 
  • Applying Quality Standards (specifically BS EN ISO 17025 and 17020) and to be compliant with ISO 9001 contributing to new processes and standard operating procedures.
  • In addition, there is a function intrinsic to this role. An employer’s duty of care and current The principal responsibility of the Forensic Submission Support Officer is to support the Forensic Submissions team in this multi-functioning and physical role, by undertaking a broad range of exhibit handling, data entry and general administrative duties in this fast paced unit. 

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.

Successful internal candidates will remain on their home force terms & conditions and move onto the relevant pay scale for the advertised position: Avon & Somerset - Scale 4.
