Job Description

Senior Network Engineer - £54,247 - £57,994 (hybrid working) including suppliment.

 
This role is currently eligible for a market supplement in addition to the basic salary to reflect determined market conditions. Eligibility for and value of Market factors are reviewed on an annual basis and are not contractual. It can be confirmed, therefore, that a market supplement at the rate of £9,100 (pro rata) per annum will be payable.

Take the lead in shaping and delivering cutting-edge technical solutions! This role combines your expertise in technical analysis, innovative design, hands-on development, and strategic implementation of devices, infrastructure, and applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Producing high-and low-level designs to meet challenging networking and security requirements.
  • Building and configuring technical solutions of networked hardware and software with a strong focus on security.
  • Fault finding, monitoring, and resolution of issues to a successful conclusion.
  • Ensuring core networking and hosting platforms perform at optimal levels.
  • Producing clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Maintaining inventory of network hardware and network IP addressing.
  • Reporting on progress and providing feedback to team members and leadership.
  • Attending sites for resolution of issues, to support deployment for Projects and BAU activities.
  • Taking ownership of internal projects and delivering them to a high standard.

We are looking for a person who can:

  • Demonstrate extensive experience in the installation and configuration of secure networks.
  • Create technical and user documentation with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Possess functional domain knowledge of routing protocols e.g., OSPF and BGP.
  • Design networks to meet customer requirements with a focus on security.
  • Configure Cisco Routers and switches with security best practices.
  • Have WAN knowledge and experience with Azure Cloud connectivity and firewalls.
  • Show expertise in Checkpoint firewalls and other network security technologies.
  • Exhibit strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols.
  • Manage network security protocols e.g., SNMP, SSH, SysLog.
  • Work with Monitoring systems e.g., SolarWinds and experience with ticket systems, understanding priorities and SLAs.
  • Implement and maintain robust network security measures to protect against threats and vulnerabilities.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.

Driving licence: There will be occasions when you are required to travel around the force area therefore the successful person will need to hold a full UK driving licence.  
Please note that following a successful probation period, this post has a potential on call requirement for which appropriate allowances will be paid.

The base salary for this role is £45,147- £48,894, you will also receive a market factors uplift of up to £9,100 (depending on experience)

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
